Located in the scenic city of Ōtari, Shiroishi Town, in northern Hokkaido, 舎熊神社 (Shiroishi Shrine) is a revered Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami, Hachiman. The shrine's architecture reflects traditional Japanese design, with a main hall made of wooden and tiled roofing, surrounded by beautiful gardens. Founded during the Nara period (710-794 CE), it is one of Japan's oldest shrines.

Cultural notes
As a major Shinto shrine in northern Hokkaido, Shiroishi Shrine is closely tied to local festivals. The shrine also features a famous wooden torii gate adorned with vermilion paint, symbolizing the unity of heaven and earth.
