Cultural notes

As a kami-associated shrine, Akibayashi Shrine is said to be inhabited by the spirit of the Japanese god Ryujin, which governs water and fertility. During the autumn season, locals celebrate the harvest festival (Koyo no Matsuri) in honor of this deity, featuring traditional performances and food stalls.

Historical note

Built during the Heian period, Akibayashi Shrine has been continuously worshipped for over 1,000 years.
