Today, the beautiful and historic Imari-jinja Shrine in Nagasaki Prefecture is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines. Founded during the Edo period (1603-1867), it was originally known as 'Imari-jinja', named after the famous Imari ceramics that were traded with China during this time.

Visitor tip
To get to the shrine, take bus #21 from Nagasaki Station and alight at the Imari-jinja-mae stop.
Cultural notes
This shrine is famous for its beautiful gardens and traditional Japanese architecture. In 1964, it was designated a National Historic Site by the Japanese government.
