Located in the heart of Dazaifu, Dayo no Tsukaya Shrine is one of Japan's oldest shrines, dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami and the god of harvests, Takamimi. The shrine was originally established during the Heian period (794-1185 CE) as a temple for the Buddhist order of Shingon. Over time, it transitioned to a Shinto shrine, with notable changes made in the Edo period (1603-1867 CE). Today, the shrine is revered for its beautiful architecture and historic significance.
