Visitor tip
When visiting Shinmei Shrine, be sure to participate in the traditional 'tsukimi' viewing ceremony of the full moon, usually held on the 15th day of the ninth lunar month.
Cultural notes
In addition to its connection to Inari Okami, Shinmei Shrine is also associated with the mythological deer, a common motif in Japanese Shintoism. Visitors can see the shrine's famous 'shishi' stone lions standing guard at the entrance.
