Sengen Shrine

Located in Izu Peninsula, Chiba Prefecture, Sengen Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the gods of fertility and agriculture, as well as the god of prosperity and good fortune. Cultural notes

Sengen Shrine is one of several shrines dedicated to the god Sengen Taisho, who was believed to have guided the founder of Edo to the location where he would eventually build the city. The shrine also hosts an annual May Day festival, where visitors can participate in traditional dances and games.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1614 after being destroyed by fire, and its current main hall was constructed during the Edo period (1603-1867 CE).
