Cultural notes
Sanai Shrine is known for its association with the legendary Japanese hero Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who was said to have visited the shrine during his battles against the forces of Emperor Antoku. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in May, which features traditional music and dance performances, as well as offerings to the kami.

The shrine was founded during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), and its current main hall dates back to the Kamakura period (1185-1333 CE).
