Onoda Jinja is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Murai, Nagano Prefecture. Dedicated to the kami of the same name, it is one of Japan's oldest shrines, with records dating back to 757 CE. The shrine is known for its traditional Japanese architecture and beautiful gardens.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
As one of Japan's oldest shrines, Onoda Jinja is said to be the birthplace of the Japanese calendar. The shrine is also famous for its beautiful lanterns, which are lit during the spring equinox festival in March.
