Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Koshimizu Shrine is closely tied to the legend of the Kamo River's sacred origin, which was said to have been brought from the Heian capital city by the shrine's founder. During the annual Otaru Snow Festival, the shrine is adorned with intricate ice sculptures and lights.
Historical note
Founded in 1854 during the late Edo period, Koshimizu Shrine was originally dedicated to Inari Okami and also revered the local god of the river, the 'Kamo' kami.
