Cultural notes

Fujitoku no Okami is believed to be the god of good fortune and prosperity, often invoked by merchants and travelers. During the Obon festival in August, lanterns are hung along the approach to the shrine, symbolizing the safe return of ancestors.

Historical note

The shrine was founded in 736 CE by Prince Akinori, a regent of Emperor Shōmu.
