Cultural notes

Kifune Shrine is famous for its connection to the legend of the 'Sakura-oki,' or ' Cherry Blossom Bridge.' According to folklore, a bridge was said to have appeared only during the blooming of cherry blossoms, allowing visitors to cross over and reach the shrine. Today, the shrine's sacred path is adorned with stunning cherry blossom trees, making it a popular destination for hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in spring.

Historical note

The shrine was originally founded in the 9th century during the Heian period and has since been rebuilt several times due to fires and other disasters.
