Kasuga Shrine

春日神社

Located in the city of Kamakura, Prefecture of Kanagawa, but originally from the region of Yoshida, Kasuga Shrine is one of Japan's most famous and influential Shinto shrines. Dedicated to the deity Kasuga Okami, it has been a symbol of peace and prosperity for centuries. The shrine's architecture and design reflect its long history, with many buildings dating back to the 8th century.

Cultural notes

Kasuga Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of the 'Tsurugi-no-Mikoto', a deity said to have possessed a magical sword. The shrine also hosts various festivals throughout the year, including the Kasuga Matsuri, which honors the deity and features traditional dances and performances.

Founded in 718 by Prince Nariakira of the Yamato Dynasty.
