Kashima Shrine, located in the Ibaraki Prefecture of Japan, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of the sea and fertility, Susanoo-no-Mikoto's brother, Amaterasu's twin, and the sun goddess herself was not enshrined here but the god's mother. The shrine is famous for its beautiful natural surroundings and traditional architecture. According to legend, Susanoo-no-Mikoto created the island of Kashima from a giant's severed head, giving rise to the name 'Kashima' meaning 'severed head'.
