Located in the coastal town of Ishinomaki, Iwagami-jinja and Amamiya-jinja Shrine is dedicated to the kami (deities) of the sea and storm gods, reflecting its strategic importance as a fishing port. The shrine's history dates back to the Heian period, with records showing that it was an important center for the worship of the god Amamukage, protector of fishermen and mariners. Over time, the shrine has also come to be associated with the god Kusanagi-no-kami, a symbol of fertility and prosperity.
