文化的背景
Okami Shrine is closely tied to the legend of Amaterasu and her journey from heaven to earth. According to myth, Amatsu-Okami sent her grandson, Ninigi-no-Mikoto, to earth as a messenger. He established Shintoism in Japan and brought with him the sacred rice of heaven.
歴史
The shrine was originally located on the island of Yashima, but it was rebuilt after a typhoon destroyed the original structure in 1698.
