Shiga

Located in the picturesque town of Echizen, Ifu River, and Echi Museum area, ifukuji, Miyajima Shrine is one of the oldest shrines on Miyajima Island. The shrine is famous for its beautiful forested grounds and ancient architecture. The shrine's history dates back to 690 AD, during the Asuka period, when it was a small temple. Later it was converted into a Shinto shrine in 718 AD by Empress Genmei.
