Shiramine Jingu

白峯神宮

Shiga

Located in the heart of Lake Biwa, Shiramine Jingu is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu and the god Susanoo. The shrine's architecture reflects its origins as a Nara-period (710-794 CE) temple, with a wooden torii gate and a traditional Japanese garden. Over time, the shrine has evolved to incorporate elements of Edo-era (1603-1867 CE) architecture, resulting in its current blend of old and new.
