Carahaa is derived from the Ryukyuan language, meaning a compass used for navigation at sea. Around 500 years ago during the Ryukyu Kingdom era, trading activities with countries such as Vietnam and other Southeast Asian nations, China, and Korea were flourishing. Carahaa represented a significant trade route for navigation.
