Overview
Kuroyuri-so is a hot spring ryokan located in the Hirase Onsen area, about a 15-minute drive from the Shirakawa-go Ogimachi UNESCO World Heritage gassho-zukuri village. The inn features naturally flowing source water from Hirase Onsen, a sulfur-sodium-chloride spring rich in mineral content that rises from the base of the sacred Mt. Haku (piped roughly 13km). The clear waters are known for warming the body deeply and have long been valued for their benefits for women's health, earning a reputation as a hot spring for fertility. The innkeeper is a 'matagi' (traditional mountain hunter), a title carrying deep meaning tied to living amid this rich natural environment and possessing deep knowledge of nature. Meals feature local and seasonal ingredients, with the innkeeper's own catch of char (iwana), prepared in a variety of exceptional dishes, being a highlight.
