Located in the scenic town of Katsuragi on the northern coast of Wakayama Prefecture, Yamagamigo-Hachiman Jinja Shrine is one of Japan's oldest and most historic Shinto shrines. Dedicated to the god of war Hachiman, it was originally established during the Nara period as a temple, but was later transformed into a shrine in 1893. The shrine is famous for its beautiful vermilion torii gate and serene gardens.

Visitor tip
