Spring Day Shrine, located in Hyogo Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of spring and fertility, Hikoboshi. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period, with a main hall (honden) constructed from cedar wood and a vermilion torii gate. Visitors can explore the surrounding gardens, which are said to be inspired by Chinese landscape design.

Visitor tip

To avoid crowds, visit the shrine early in the morning or later in the evening when the sun sets over Hyogo Bay.

Cultural notes

In the spring, visitors can witness the 'spring festival' (haru matsuri) where offerings are made to Hikoboshi for a bountiful harvest. The shrine is also known for its beautiful cherry blossoms, which bloom in late March.

The shrine was founded in 645 CE during the Asuka period, making it one of the oldest shrines in Japan.
