Located in the city of Tottori, Sakamoto Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of rice and fertility, Ōkuninushi. The shrine is famous for its beautiful autumn foliage and traditional architecture. In the Edo period, it was known as 'San no Sato', or 'Three-no-Matsumae', referring to the three ancestral halls that surrounded the main hall.

Visitor tip
Visit during the autumn leaves season (mid-November to mid-December) for a stunning display of changing colors. Be sure to try some of the local sake and rice at the on-site restaurant!
Cultural notes
Ōkuninushi, the primary kami enshrined at Sakamoto Shrine, is often associated with the Japanese rice festival, Mikoshi Matsuri. The shrine also hosts a traditional summer festival, Nagami Matsuri, where visitors can try various local foods and drinks.
