located in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, Nagaoka-jinja, also known as Shizuoka's Shitennō-ji, was originally built in 1188 to protect the surrounding region from natural disasters and evil spirits. After a fire destroyed the original shrine, it was rebuilt in 1889 by Emperor Meiji and has since become a prominent site for Shinto worship. today, the shrine is dedicated to the protection of the city and its people.
