Visitor tip

Cultural notes

In Shinto mythology, the Tengu is said to possess supernatural strength and agility. According to local legend, Oku-Futsu Shrine's Tengu god is believed to have protected the shrine's sacred water source from invaders.

Historical note

Founded during the Edo period (1603-1867), Oku-Futsu Shrine was originally dedicated to the worship of Hachiman, the god of war.
