Visitor tip

Visitors may want to bring umbrellas as the shrine grounds can be particularly wet during rainy weather due to its proximity to the nearby Akita River.

Cultural notes

Some sources suggest that Hachiman is connected to a region in which deities were believed to appear at times of great change or upheaval. It may be wise for visitors to bring offerings of rain socks, umbrellas and other items used in bad weather as possible offerings to the kami.

Historical note

The original location was unknown, but a copy was moved to its current site in 1993 as part of efforts by Gunma prefecture to transfer land ownership from private companies to public entities. This effort was part of a broader policy known as 'land expropriation'.
