Takeda-no-Okami Shrine, dedicated to Takeda no Okami, a local deity believed to protect fishermen and sailors, is located in the Hyogo prefecture. As one of the few shrines in Japan built by a female founder, it showcases a unique architectural style. The shrine's name, which translates to 'Salt Pot Shrine,' refers to its historical use as a sacred salt storage facility.

Visitor tip
To respectfully pray for safe passage on the sea, bow upon arrival and offer a small coin into the offering box.
Cultural notes
The shrine celebrates the 'Matsuri' festival in spring to honor Takeda no Okami's role as guardian of fishermen. The shrine is also notable for its use of distinctive black-roofed buildings, which were originally used as storage facilities for sacred salt.
