Inari Okami Shrine is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan, located at the western foot of Mount Yatagarasu on the shore of Tokyo Bay in Chiba Prefecture. The shrine is dedicated to Inari Okami, the god of rice, fertility, and prosperity. The complex features several smaller shrines and gates, each representing a different aspect of Inari's power.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Inari Okami is often depicted with multiple foxes, which are said to be his messengers. The shrine's famous vermilion torii gate is adorned with thousands of paper lanterns during the tsukimi festival, creating a stunning display of lights on the mountain.

The shrine was founded in 747 by Emperor Shōmu, making it one of the oldest continuously operating shrines in Japan.
