The Inari shrine in Niigata Prefecture is dedicated to the Shinto deity Inari Okami, known as the god of rice, fertility, and prosperity. The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form a tunnel up the mountain, said to be used by messengers carrying sacred rice grains from the shrine's inner sanctum.
