Churyu no Miroku Taisha, or Spring Day Palace Shrine, is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Kariwa, Niigata Prefecture. The shrine is dedicated to the god of spring and fertility, Churyu Hiko no Kami. It is one of the 99 grand shrines of Japan and has played an important role in the region's agricultural and spiritual life for centuries.

Visitor tip
To fully appreciate the shrine's beauty, visit early in the morning to avoid crowds, and try a traditional sake at one of the many izakayas nearby.
Cultural notes
Churyu no Miroku Taisha is particularly famous for its association with the mythical creature 'Kappa', which is said to reside in the shrine's waters. The shrine also hosts a unique New Year (Oshogatsu) festival, where participants dress up as Kappa and parade through the streets.

The shrine was built in 1872 during the Meiji period.
