Reimei Jōsō Shrine, located in Hokkaido, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of love and poetry. The shrine's primary deity is Reimei, known as the god of beauty, song, and dance. Visitors can walk through the beautiful gardens, which are said to be influenced by Japanese garden design from the Heian period. Reimei Jōsō Shrine is particularly famous for its cherry blossom trees and vibrant autumn foliage.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

In Shinto mythology, Reimei is often associated with the goddess of love, Urashima Taro's love interest. Visitors may also notice the shrine's traditional Japanese-style architecture, which reflects the architectural styles of the Heian and Edo periods.

Historical note

The shrine was originally established in 1869 during the Meiji period and relocated to its current location in 1898.
