Todai-ji Shrine, located in Kyoto, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of learning and wisdom, Todai. The shrine complex includes the iconic Hondo main hall, which houses a large statue of Amaterasu Omikami, the sun goddess. The shrine has a rich history dating back to 710 CE, during the Nara period. It is said that Emperor Shomu built the shrine as an expression of gratitude for the safe return of his son, Prince Shotoku.
