Cultural notes
The shrine is also known for its association with the legend of Hakuoki, who is said to have appeared at the shrine in the form of a white deer. This legend is still celebrated during the annual White Mountain Shrine Festival in July.

The shrine was established in 1597 by Date Terumasa, the daimyo of Akita Domain.
