Located in the city of Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, Hatsukami Shrine is dedicated to the protection of fishermen and travelers. Dedicated to the kami (Shinto deities) Hachiman and Kuniyomi, it is believed that they watch over the region's coastline and ensure safe passage for those who visit.

Visitor tip

As one of the 100 most scenic shrines in Japan, Hatsukami Shrine is known for its beautiful architecture and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1906 after being destroyed by fire in 1889.
