Visitor tip
For a unique experience, visit Sanbomei-shrine during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) and offer prayers at the shrine's special ' Cherry Blossom Shrine' dedicated to Fujin, the god of wind.
Cultural notes
Sanbomei-shrine is believed to be inhabited by the kami of Mount Sanbomei, including the mountain's guardian deity, Shichiseijin (Seven Immortals). The shrine also has a strong connection to the mythology surrounding the 'Murasame River', which flows through Ibaraki Prefecture. Visitors can participate in the 'Sanbomei Shrine Festival' held annually in August, featuring traditional performances and food stalls.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1658 after being destroyed by fire in 1641.
