Cultural notes

This shrine is notable for its connection to the mythology of the Japanese folk hero, Urashima Taro. According to legend, Urashima visited Eight Hills Shrine on his way back from a visit to the underwater palace of Ryujin, and as a reward, was gifted with a long life.
