Kagawa

The Takeda Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Ton, Kagawa Prefecture. The shrine was originally built as a way to honor the local lord who protected the area from pirates. Over time, it has come to be revered for its beautiful gardens and historic architecture. Visitors can explore the main hall, which features a large torii gate, and stroll through the serene gardens, including a teahouse and a pond with koi fish.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

The Takeda Shrine is believed to be inhabited by the kami of Ton, as well as the god of agriculture, Ryujin. The shrine also hosts an annual festival called Matsuri, which takes place in May and features traditional dances, food stalls, and a bonfire ritual.

Historical note

The shrine was built during the Edo period, specifically in 1715 by Lord Takeda Sukeoki.
