Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Frog Island Shrine is associated with the god of prosperity and good luck, as well as the water spirit kami that presides over Lake Biwa. During the Setsubun festival in February, visitors participate in a traditional ritual to purify themselves from evil spirits using beans and sake.
