Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its association with Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who is said to have wrestled a serpent in this very forest. The Chrysanthemum Festival commemorates the god's victory over evil and is typically held in late September or early October.
Historical note
The shrine was established in the 16th century by a local daimyo (feudal lord) who wanted to ensure the gods' favor for his family.
