Cultural notes

Ebisu is unique among the Seven Lucky Gods as the only one of purely Japanese origin. Often depicted holding a fishing rod and a sea bream, he represents honest labor and fair dealing in business. Many Ebisu shrines hold festivals called Ebisu-ko or Toka Ebisu, particularly popular in commercial districts.
