浅間神社

Located in Iwaki Peninsula, Shichisei-san Shrine is dedicated to the gods of the sea and the heavens. Built in 1734 during the Edo period, the shrine's main hall is a beautiful example of traditional Japanese architecture. The shrine is famous for its 'haiden' - a single-story wooden building with a sloping roof, which represents the humble abode of the kami.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Shichisei-san Shrine is closely associated with the region's maritime culture. The shrine is also famous for its 'Tsutsugaki-zuka', a stone statue of a mythical creature, which is said to have been created by the shrine's chief priest in the 18th century.
