Located in the town of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Dōsugi Shrine is dedicated to the worship of Tashiro-jin, a Shinto kami associated with good fortune and prosperity. According to local legend, Tashiro-jin was invoked by a group of samurai warriors who sought protection before battle.

Visitor tip
Visitors can purchase traditional sweets called 'dosugi manju' at the shrine's snack shop, which are said to be blessed by Tashiro-jin.

Dōsugi Shrine is also famous for its unique festival tradition, the 'Toshigami Matsuri', which takes place in late January. During this time, devotees offer prayers and perform rituals to ensure good luck and prosperity for the coming year.

The shrine was originally constructed in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), but its current structure dates back to the Edo period (1603-1867).
