Katsurahikari Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Koyama, Tottori Prefecture, dedicated to Katsurahikari-oki-toryu, a storm god and the patron deity of sailors and fishermen. The shrine's architecture is influenced by the Kojunko style, characteristic of 17th-century Tottori region.

Visitor tip

To honor the storm god, visit during the summer solstice festival (Tanabata) and pray for safe passage at sea. Bring a small wooden boat-shaped offering, known as 'sensu' , as an additional gesture of respect.

Katsurahikari Shrine is closely tied to local maritime traditions and mythological narratives surrounding the Tottori coast's powerful typhoons. During the peak fishing seasons, the shrine's priests will often perform a ritual 'kaginui' ceremony to appease Katsurahikari-oki-toryu.
