Snakes and pine trees are intertwined in the mythology of Snake Pine Shrine, located in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. The shrine is dedicated to the kami of rice, prosperity, and good harvests, as well as the god of snakes, Mochizuki no Okami. Visitors can see a large pine tree near the main hall, said to be over 1,000 years old, and take a stroll along the nearby Nagasaka River.
