Cultural notes
As one of Japan's oldest shrines, Izuhara Shrine is said to be the place where Inari Okami first appeared. The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form a tunnel leading to the main hall. Every year, the shrine hosts a festival in October called 'Tenjin Matsuri', which honors the deity of learning and scholarship.

The shrine was originally built during the Nara period (710-794 CE) and rebuilt in the Kamakura period (1185-1333 CE).
