Located in the city of Hiratsuka, Shizuoka Prefecture, Yokosuga Shrine is one of Japan's oldest shrines, dating back to the Nara period (710-794 CE). Dedicated to the storm god Susanoo-no-Mikoto, it also enshrines the local god of fishing, Ryujin, and the sea goddess Amaterasu. The shrine's architecture reflects its age, with a wooden torii gate from the Edo period (1603-1867 CE) and a main hall built during the Kamakura period (1185-1333 CE). Visitors can experience traditional Japanese culture through the shrine's annual autumn leaves festival, as well as by participating in rituals and ceremonies to ensure good luck and prosperity.

Cultural notes
Susanoo-no-Mikoto is often associated with storms and fertility, making him a patron deity for farmers. The shrine's proximity to the sea also makes it a place of worship for sailors and fishermen. In addition to the autumn leaves festival, visitors can participate in a traditional 'Matsuri' ceremony, which involves purification rituals and offerings to the gods.
