Inari Okami is the primary kami enshrined at Inari-oka Shrine in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture. The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form a tunnel leading to the main hall, symbolizing the connection between heaven and earth. Dedicated to the goddess of rice, fertility, and prosperity, Inari Okami is revered by locals for her blessings in agriculture and business.

Cultural notes

Inari Okami is often depicted as a rice goddess and is associated with the myth of Inari's servant, who was turned into a fox. The shrine is also famous for its annual festivals, including the Shinnen Matsuri (New Year's Festival) in February and the Aoi Matsuri (Grass-Coloring Festival) in May.

Historical note

The shrine was founded during the Kamakura period (1185-1333) as a branch shrine of the imperial palace, with its current location established in the 15th century.
