Visitor tip
For a unique experience, visit during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) and try some traditional rice crackers, called senbei, at the snack stalls near the torii gate.
Cultural notes
Inari is revered as a guardian of prosperity, fertility, and good fortune. During the New Year (Oshogatsu), devotees often leave offerings of rice balls and other food items under the torii gates to ensure success in the coming year. The shrine's thousands of vermilion torii gates are said to symbolize the multitude of blessings Inari offers.
