Located in the heart of Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Gold Sword Susanoo Shrine is a Shinto site dedicated to Susanoo, the storm god and ancestor of the Japanese imperial family. The shrine's name is derived from Susanoo's sword, which was said to be forged by the gods.

Visitor tip

Susanoo is often associated with turbulent weather and the origins of the sea. At this shrine, visitors can participate in the annual Susanoo Matsuri festival, which takes place in mid-July and features traditional dance performances and offerings to the kami.
