Located in the heart of Osaka, Socoro no Kaminarimon or Sakurayama Socoro Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Socoro-Okami, the god of fire and lightning. Visitor tip
Visitors can make an offering of sake to Socoro-Okami at the shrine's main torii gate, which is said to bring good luck and protection against lightning strikes.
Cultural notes
Socoro Shrine is famous for its unique ' lightning rod' structure, which is believed to have been inspired by the god's association with fire and lightning. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in May to celebrate Socoro-Okami's power.
