師岡神社

Saitama

Located in the town of Kamo in Saitama Prefecture, Iimori Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to various kami including Inari Okami, Kamadozumi, and Ii no Tsukiyomi. The shrine is famous for its beautifully landscaped gardens and its association with the famous Japanese poet Saigō Tanaka, who was said to have been inspired by the shrine's natural beauty.

Visitor tip

Visitors can purchase and write their wishes on sacred paper called ema at a special altar near the shrine entrance.

Cultural notes

Iimori Shrine is also famous for its unique architecture, which features a distinctive curved roof that resembles a boat's hull. This design element is thought to symbolize the connection between the shrine and the nearby river.
